Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar's world record for the first time in the history of ODI cricket
Virat Kohli World Record: India's run machine Virat Kohli made a big record in ODI cricket in the match against Sri Lanka.
MUMBAI: India's star batsman Virat Kohli, who has been in superb form in the World Cup 2023, has created another big record in the history of ODI cricket. The Indian team is batting first in the ongoing match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede ground in Mumbai. Virat came on the field after Rohit Sharma was dismissed on the second ball of the first over. He not only saved the team's innings with opener Shubman Gill but also set a huge individual record.
Virat Kohli scored a run on the 5th ball of the 11th over against Sri Lanka. It was his 34th run of the innings. With this, he completed 1000 runs in ODIs in this calendar year. This is his eighth time to complete 1000 runs in a calendar year. He is the first batsman to achieve such feat in world cricket. Earlier this record was held by India's master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin had done this seven times.
Sachin Tendulkar was the first to score 1000 runs in one ODI calendar in 1994. After that, Sachin scored 1000 runs in 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2007. Virat Kohli was the first to score 1000 runs in a calendar year in 2011. After that till 2014 i.e. for four consecutive years he scored 1000 runs every year. After that 3 years from 2017 to 2019 and now in 2023 he once again crossed the 1000 run mark. Virat then completed another half-century in ODI cricket off 50 balls.
